Exploring Beers – Part 3

20120425-200127.jpg

In this last part of our Japanese beer series, we introduce to you the Coedo beers. While this artisanal beer line has five flavors in total, we are currently offering three of our favorites: Kyara, Shiro, and the award-winning Beniaka. Founded in 1997, Coedo comes from a popular tourist destination outside of Tokyo known as Kawagoe. We hope you will take this opportunity to experience artfully handcrafted Japanese beers, not frequently found in the area.

Shiro

The feature of this non-filtered wheat beer is its bright, smooth, slightly cloudy appearance. The combination of wheat malt and specially chosen yeasts give this beer a sweet aroma with fruity overtones.

Beniaka

Fermented for an extended period of time, this premium lager features an aromatic sweetness in its amber tones. This truly unique beer is a rare combination of high quality malts and “Beniaka,” the roasted Kintoki sweet potatoes of the Kawagoe region.

Kyara

Rich golden brown with tinges of red – these are the hues of Kyara Beer. The name “Kyara” is derived from the incredibly fragrant Aloeswood tree. The rich, full-bodied flavor of malt is enhanced by the use of highly aromatic hops.

Exploring Beers – Part 2

We have started to offer a couple premium Japanese beers at Sushi 88, including Suntory The Premium Malt’s and Echigo Koshihikari Beer. These beers are extremely different in their characteristics and flavor, showing the range and diversity of beers that Japan has to offer.

Suntory The Premium Malt’s

Suntory The Premium Malt’s offers a floral, elegant aroma and refreshing, dry finish. The bitterness that follows the floral aroma fades instantly, followed by a pleasant aroma and aftertaste. This beer is malty as indicted by the name and is nicely paired with spicy or fried foods.

Echigo Koshihikari

Light is how one could describe Echigo Koshihikari Beer in taste, color, and aroma. It has a clean, crisp taste with hints of rice and a smooth finish. This beer goes very well with nigiri sushi and sashimi.

Exploring Beers – Part 1

Let us introduce our two most popular beers offered at Sushi 88, Sapporo and Asahi. These beers are likely to be offered in most Japanese restaurants and are a good choice for those who are new to Japanese beers.

Sapporo Premium

The Sapporo Premium is our most popular and bestselling beer. It has a light, crisp, and refreshing taste. Available at Sushi 88 on tap or by the bottle.

Asahi Super Dry

Clean and crisp with a restrained bitterness, this light golden beer was Japan’s first “dry” lager. Asahi is available at Sushi 88 in two sizes.
